Dermatitis herpetiformis – a chronic dermatosis of unknown etiology, which is characterized by long enough relapsing with paroxysmal appearance on the skin of the human body itchy rash polymorphic in the form of bubbles, papules, blisters, urticaria elements, grouped into rings, semicircles and garlands. Forms of dermatitis herpetiformis are very diverse, but all are characterized by itching and burning in areas of rashes on the skin. At the beginning of the disease the skin becomes red, small bubbles appear later. In this disease the smooth surface of the hands, arms, buttocks and thighs are usually affected. Mucous membranes are affected very rarely. In 9 of 10 patients suffering from this disease, digestive disorders occur, they are caused by an allergy to gluten – a protein cereal plant. This disease is also called polymorphic bullous dermatitis, or Duhring’s disease, on behalf of the American dermatologist (1845-1913), who first described this disease.

The causes of dermatitis herpetiformis, like most other skin diseases, today is not yet fully clear. According to some medical research, a predisposition to the disease can be congenital. This disease can be triggered with iodine, gluten and other chemicals and food products, as well as certain infections or cancers.
The main therapeutic tool – medicines containing sulfur, such as sulfones and sulfonamides. As medicines for topical use preparations containing glucocorticoids and tar are appointed. In addition, compliance with a gluten-free diet is recommended with the exception of wheat, oats, millet, barley and other cereals, as well as products containing iodine.
With strong digestive disorders the patient should strictly observe a diet: do not eat gluten, which is a lot in wheat, rye, oats and barley. In the use of corn, rice, wheat and potatoes for a few weeks indigestion gradually restored.
Only a dermatologist can establish cause of trouble and a long time skin rash. In severe cases, digestive disorders are various complications. When you see the above symptoms, should seek immediate medical care.
It is possible to suggest the presence of dermatitis herpetiformis for symptoms of the disease, so the dermatologist will examine the patient, and then take a tissue sample. The diagnosis is confirmed only by histological studies of tissue.
Course of the disease
It’s not dangerous, but quite unpleasant skin disease. It is periodically aggravated, although it may disappear.
