Aneurysm

What is aneurysm?

Aneurysm is a disease of the arteries, and it is a different size and shape of the expansion and outward protrusion of the arteries. It is based on the weakening of the elastic properties of the vascular walls. Very often doctors found an aneurysm of thoracic and abdominal aortic.

Symptoms of aneurysm

  • Impaired swallowing.
  • Respiratory failure.
  • Heart disorder.
  • Manifestation of vocal fold paresis.
  • Pain in the abdomen or chest.
  • Poor circulation.

However, approximately 50% of all aneurysms, they do not cause discomfort.

Causes of aneurysm

The main cause of aneurysms - atherosclerosis. In 95% of cases, the cause of aneurysms of the abdominal aorta - atherosclerosis of the aorta wall. Sometimes aneurysms of the thoracic aorta are caused by inflammatory changes observed, such as syphilis. Aneurysms are caused by trauma, in which the wall of the aorta is damaged, and also due to a myocardial infarction. Sometimes a congenital weakness of the walls of the aorta is possible. In this case, there are

Treatment of aneurysm

Aneurysm

As a rule, small aneurysms do not cause any ill health, the treatment is not needed. Aneurysms are in the abdominal cavity with a diameter of more than 4 cm, is usually removed through surgery. During the operation, the affected part of the artery with the aneurysm is cut and sewn in its place a healthy part of the artery, taken from another part of the body, or a plastic prosthesis. Drug treatment of the aneurysm is not possible.

How to help yourself? Self-treatment of the aneurysm is impossible. However, keeping a healthy lifestyle, you can reduce the probability of a lot of atherosclerosis.

If the feeling of "tightness" and pain in the chest and abdomen for a long time does not pass, you should see a doctor.

If a doctor suspected aneurysm (the first suspicion of an aneurysm is possible in the assessment of medical history of the patient, clarifying his blood pressure and lipid concentrations in the blood), the doctor will conduct special inspections: echoscopy, CT scan, and, if necessary, arteriography. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the doctor will discuss with the patient the possibility of surgery. At rupture of the aneurysm patient is hospitalized immediately and urgently to operate.

Course of the disease

Due to the changes, which are caused by atherosclerosis, the artery gradually narrows. Over the years, the resistance of the arteries decreases, they protrude, it’s the beginning of the aneurysm. First, people do not feel any pains. Only later, when the protrusion of an artery filled with blood, organs are compressed, there are various problems (depending on which organs are squeezed). Aneurysm of the thoracic aorta disturbed function of the heart, lungs, esophagus and trachea. Abdominal aortic aneurysm may have no symptoms, patients often wrongly suspected, for example, appendicitis or renal colic.

When aneurysm, formation of life-threatening blood clots is possible. If you do not carry out the operation, it may cause a large loss of blood.
