Infectious diseases

Actinomycosis is a primary chronic infections caused by fungi radiant – actinomycetes. Most often, these fungi infect the gums, tonsils, teeth and cause severe inflammation and the formation of dense infiltration, which then suppurate. A break of pus through the skin, there are multiple fistulas. In addition, actinomycosis can affect lung and intestinal tissue.

  • Swelling of the mucous membrane of the mouth.
  • Inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth.
  • The formation of ulcers. Some time later, a fistula pus coming out.
  • Pulmonary actinomycosis – chest pain and purulent sputum.
  • Colon actinomycosis – pain, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, weight loss.

Actinomycosis is caused by the bacterium Actinomyces israelii. Germs are widely distributed in nature: they live in the soil and on the ears of cereals. These fungi can produce thin strands – formations with typical luminous cones at the end (which is why these mushrooms are called the radiant). In humans, these bacteria along with other microorganisms are almost always found in the mucosa of the mouth and bronchi, and they do not cause any disease. Only under certain conditions, reduce the defense response, fungi become pathogenic properties and penetrate into the tissues (for example, through the wound on the mucous membrane of the mouth or decayed teeth), causing actinomycosis.

Actinomycosis usually requires treatment with antibiotics, primarily penicillin. Pathogens also destroyed by X-rays. Sometimes the operation is conducted

How to help yourself? Actinomycosis can not heal on its own.

If you experience symptoms should see a doctor. When actinomycosis, there are small dense swelling in the mucosa of the mouth and skin of the neck. Exerting pressure on them can cause the patient pain. Colon actinomycosis symptoms are pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. In addition, there may be constipation and weight loss. If it affects the lungs there is pain in the chest. Other symptoms of pulmonary actinomycosis – fever, cough with purulent sputum.

Fastest and most reliable method of diagnosis of actinomycosis is now considered immunofluorescence method. This method helps to identify antibodies formed in the body, acting on pathogens. Also, sometimes fails to detect pathogens and contents of ulcers or sputum. After the diagnosis the doctor prescribes medication.

Actinomycosis may begin suddenly or develop unnoticed.

As a rule, when the mouth is infected, abscess is formed near the tooth, the contents of which can penetrate into the deeper tissues are located, or through the fistula formed to break into the cavity. Maxillofacial actinomycosis most often encountered in practice. Infection can infiltrate and deep tissues in the neck.

Pulmonary actinomycosis develops gradually. It is often detected only when the patient suffers pain, and he has a cough. In this case, pulmonary actinomycosis is very strong. If untreated, inflammation, abscess through the chest wall may break out or grow in the pelvis.

There are not symptoms typical only for colon actinomycosis. The disease develops slowly, against the background of non-specific symptoms that are more similar to the symptoms of the tumor.

Is it dangerous?

Delayed diagnosis or wrong treatment of inflammation can lead to the spread of information and the destruction of bone and soft tissue. In addition, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream, and the patient will die of blood poisoning.

People need to take care of their teeth and the mucous membranes of the mouth. Regularly check if there is a wound on the mucous membrane of the mouth. Fish bones are especially dangerous, so the fish should be eaten with caution!
